Founded by brothers Andrew and John Demko in Pennsylvania, Demko Knives brings decades of innovation and precision to the knife world. Known for their patented Shark Lock mechanism, Demko delivers rugged, fidget-friendly performance in both American-made and imported models.
A Legacy of Engineering Excellence
Hey folks—Jade here with KnifeJoy, just in from the road and ready to talk about one of our favorite brands: Demko Knives.
Andrew Demko has been designing and building knives since the late 1980s, long before founding Demko Knives. After gaining recognition through his engineering work with Cold Steel, Andrew and his brother John Demko launched their own brand.
Today, Demko Knives operates out of Pennsylvania, where they produce a line of precision-engineered knives built for durability, innovation, and everyday usability. In addition to their U.S.-made lineup, they also offer a Taiwan-produced series—bringing the same patented design and build quality at a more accessible price point.
The American-Made MG AD20: Power and Precision
Let’s start with their flagship model, the MG AD20, built right here in the U.S.A.
The AD20 showcases Demko’s engineering genius and features:
-
Available in machined G-10 or titanium handles in colors and textures, including natural G-10.
-
Several blade styles as well, including Spear point and Bowie-style blades – crafted for strength and versatility.
-
Shark Lock system – Demko’s proprietary locking mechanism that combines fidget-worthy action with unmatched strength.
-
Thumb slot or thumb stud opening – giving you options depending on your preferred opening style.
The Shark Lock is what truly sets Demko Knives apart. When pressure is applied to the lock during use—like cutting or piercing—it actually reinforces the lock engagement, adding strength instead of strain. The more pressure you apply, the more secure the lock becomes. It’s not just reliable—it’s fun to use.
The AD20.5: Same Bite, Smaller Package
For those who want the same performance in a more compact, less expensive design, the AD20.5 delivers.
Made in Taiwan under Andrew and John’s supervision, this model features the same Shark Lock mechanism, but in a slightly smaller frame. Several handle options, including Grivory (a lightweight, high-tech polymer), make it easy to carry without sacrificing durability.
Other key features include:
-
Ambidextrous design – with thumb openings on both sides.
-
Left-handed pocket clip option – included in the box.
-
Same ergonomic frame and control, just in a scaled-down size perfect for EDC carry.
The Nano Shark: Compact, Creative, and Practical
Demko’s newest model, the Nano Shark, takes their innovative design and packs it into an ultra-compact everyday companion.
Smaller than both the AD20 and AD 20.5, the Nano Shark features:
-
Deep-carry pocket clip for discreet carry.
-
Reliable Shark Lock mechanism in a mini format.
-
Thumb slot and thumb stud options for easy opening.
-
The same satisfying action and secure lock you’d expect from any Demko knife.
And for those of us constantly opening boxes (you know who you are)—Demko has also released a utility blade version of the Nano Shark.
This version takes standard replaceable razor blades, so you never have to sharpen it. Just pop in a new blade when it dulls, and you’re ready to go. It even comes with the tool needed for blade swaps. Any double-sided utility blade from your local hardware store fits perfectly.
Made in America, Designed for Everyone
Every Demko knife—whether made in Pennsylvania or through their Taiwan partner facility—is built to the same standard of excellence. Their lineup includes:
-
MG AD20 – full-size American-made powerhouse.
-
AD 20.5 – lightweight, accessible, and versatile.
-
Nano Shark – compact, clever, and everyday ready.
-
Utility Shark – for box-cutting pros and collectors alike.
Their packaging is minimalist and efficient, keeping the focus on the craftsmanship inside.
