Founded in Phoenix, Arizona, MachineWise Knives blends precision machining with cutting-edge design. Known for their 3D-printed packaging and EDC-ready folders like the Mojave, these American-made knives showcase next-level engineering and attention to detail.
From the Flipper Community to Fine-Tuned Engineering
Hey folks—Jade here with KnifeJoy, and I want to talk about one of the most exciting up-and-coming knife makers we carry: MachineWise.
MachineWise started in early 2021 in Phoenix, Arizona, when a small group of makers from the balisong (flipper) community decided to take their precision and mechanical expertise into full production. Fast forward a few short years, and they’ve already moved into a larger warehouse—still in Phoenix—where they handle all their machining in-house.
Even more impressive? They 3D-print all their own packaging. Every knife they produce comes in a custom-designed, printed case unique to that model—an innovation you rarely see in the knife world.
A KnifeJoy Partner Since 2024
KnifeJoy has been proud to work with MachineWise since last year, and it’s been incredible watching their rapid growth. I’ve spoken with Martin, one of the team members, quite a few times, and we finally got to meet in person at Blade Show Atlanta—their first Blade Show ever.
We’re looking forward to visiting their Phoenix shop soon for a behind-the-scenes look at how these knives come to life.
The Serif Opus: Precision for the Flipper Community
MachineWise first made waves with the Serif Opus, a beautifully balanced balisong (or butterfly knife) built with competition-level precision.
Each Opus arrives in a custom 3D-printed case that includes:
-
A product card and MachineWise sticker
-
Balance weights for customizing flipping performance
-
A pressure-fit insert to hold the knife securely in place
The Serif Opus features:
-
Various anodized and machine textured titanium handles with a distressed or subdued finish options are available
-
Several blade options including Tanto and a Bowie-style blade tuned for balance and smooth flipping
-
Customizable weight options for personal feel and control
These knives aren’t just functional—they’re works of art in motion.
The Sonora: Everyday Carry Meets Engineering Art
Next up is the Sonora, another example of how MachineWise blends form and function. The 3D-printed tube-style packaging includes the product card, a bottle of oil, a takedown tool, and a small metal coin representing the knife’s bolster material—a collectible touch that shows how much thought goes into each piece.
The Sonora is designed for EDC practicality and includes:
-
A titanium handle with a bolster-style construction
-
Button lock flipper action for fast deployment
-
Deep-carry pocket clip—fully reversible for left- or right-handed use
-
Machined clip and clean symmetry that feels just as premium as it looks
Even though they started in the flipper community, MachineWise clearly knows how to make an everyday carry knife that balances precision with usability.
The Mojave: MachineWise’s Latest Folder
Their newest model, the Mojave, takes everything MachineWise has learned so far and refines it into a more utilitarian EDC design.
Packaged in their signature screw-cap, 3D-printed container—complete with tool, oil, and product card—the Mojave is equal parts functional and futuristic.
Key features include:
-
Frame lock construction with an internal blade insert
-
Machined backspacer for structure and style
-
Deep-carry machined clip, inset for a flush fit
-
Warrencliff-style blade with a robust tip and durable edge geometry
It’s a clean, purpose-driven knife that fits right into daily carry rotation—sleek enough for collectors, yet strong enough for real-world use.
3D-Printed Innovation, Made in the USA
Every aspect of MachineWise knives—from the blades to the packaging—is made in the USA. Their unique mix of engineering, precision machining, and design-first thinking has earned them a fast-growing following in both the EDC and flipping communities.
At KnifeJoy, we’re honored to be one of their select few authorized dealers. Their lineup may be small now, but every model reflects an obsessive level of care and creativity.
